Akamai for WordPress Beta Now Available

January 17, 2017 · by Davey Shafik

WordPress powers a huge number of websites and blogs globally, it is one of the top CMSs with over 27% of the global market, it's responsible for some of the biggest [and smallest] sites out there.

At Akamai, where we handle almost one third of all internet traffic, we realize that a tighter integration between Akamai and WordPress could massively improve the experience of our customers, and more importantly, their end-users.

Today we are announcing the beta release of the Akamai for WordPress plugin. The plugin integrates Akamai's new Fast Invalidate functionality (CCUv3), seamlessly invalidating your Akamai EdgeGrid cache when updating content — whenever you create or update a post or page, automatically. Once enabled, you get five second invalidate exactly when you'd expect it. Purging couldn't be simpler.

Available Now in Beta

The latest version of the Akamai for WordPress plugin is available now as a public beta from our GitHub repository.

With the beta version, we will automatically purge the front page URL and the post or page URL, as well as — optionally — related tag, category, and date archive URLs. Post URLs will also be automatically purged, whenever a comment is posted.

  • Download and unpack the ZIP file
  • Upload the unpacked directory to your wp-content/plugins directory, along with an .edgerc file.
  • Activate the plugin in your WordPress Admin
  • Configure the plugin by clicking on the "Akamai for WP" menu item in the left hand navigation menu

It will also be available in the WordPress Plugin directory soon.
