Get Started with the Akamai APIs

January 18, 2017 · by Kirsten Hunter

Looking for the best way to get started working with the Akamai APIs Check out our Get Started section for a step-by-step tutorial guiding you through the steps needed to make that first successful call. The tutorial should take less than 30 minutes to work through, and will give you the knowledge necessary to integrate with our APIs.

This tutorial includes sections on the following:

  • Set up your environment: Whether you choose to use a docker container or a local install, we've got the details you need to get ready to play.
  • Authorize your client: Includes instructions on creating credentials in the Luna Control Center.
  • Configure your credentials: This section tells you how to store and manage your credentials for use with our signing libraries.
  • Make your first API call: Call one of our APIs using a command line utility or some of the code included in the repository.

The instructions work correctly on Windows 7+ and all current versions of OSX. While the tutorial uses Python, sample code is available in several languages:

  • PHP
  • Python
  • Perl
  • Ruby
  • Node

We also have signing libraries for a few other programming languages, available from the Github repositories for akamai-open.

  • C#
  • Java
  • GoLang

Dive in and get started working with our APIs!  Once you've gotten your first calls working, you can browse through our API Catalog to see what else you can integrate into your systems.
